The automotive service industry has focused on combustion-powered vehicles for more than 100 years, but electrification is changing everything. There are millions of hybrid gasoline-electric vehicles on the road today, and consumers are transitioning over to pure-electric vehicles as dozens of new models are announced each year. As a result, forward-thinking companies, such as Bridgestone, are making immediate changes and preparing for a combustion-free future.
Bridgestone – a subsidiary of Bridgestone Americas – has announced that it will expand its electric and hybrid vehicle services at 44 of its Firestone Complete Auto Care and Wheel Works stores. In Austin, Texas, and San Francisco, California, the retail locations will offer advanced electric and hybrid vehicle services to customers. In contrast to combustion vehicles, which require frequent oil, fluid, and brake services, hybrid and electric vehicles have unique service needs that the Bridgestone service centers will address.
These cutting-edge services include inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs involving high-voltage components. The company will also offer health checks and troubleshooting for batteries, electric motors, and electrical systems. Bridgestone notes that these new services will complement the current low-voltage hybrid and battery electric vehicle services currently offered at Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, Hibdon Tires Plus, and Wheel Works retail stores nationwide.
“It’s an exciting time to be in the automotive service industry as mobility evolves to be cleaner and more sustainable,” said Marko Ibrahim, president of Bridgestone Retail Operations. “We truly believe what’s good for society is good for business, which is why we are increasing our investments in plug-in vehicle services in two key markets with plans to expand further in the future. The steps we take now will ensure we are the service provider of choice for new-energy vehicles.”
Bridgestone has also partnered with Blink Charging to install 50 charging stations at 25 Firestone Complete Auto Care and Wheel Works stores. The Level 2 chargers will be installed at select stores in Texas, Colorado, and California – regions where the growth of electric vehicles has been significant.
