A 21-year-old Massachusetts man has died after his car plunged into the ocean off Menauhant Beach in Falmouth, police said.
Falmouth first responders were called to the scene just before 9:30 a.m. Sunday for a single car crash at the intersection of Central Avenue and Menauhant Road.
According to police, a preliminary investigation reveals the driver — identified only as a 21-year-old Grafton man — was traveling south on Central Avenue when he failed to stop at a stop sign. He then crossed over Menauhant Road, crossed over Menauhant Beach, and his vehicle landed in the water on its roof.
The Coast Guard said Massachusetts State Police divers recovered the victim’s body at the scene near Central Avenue.
The driver died from injuries he sustained in the crash, police said; there was no one else inside the vehicle with him.
Video from the scene shows the man’s car has been removed from the water.
The crash remains under investigation by the Falmouth Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police collision analysis and reconstruction section.
