Gunmen in stolen cars open fire on officer in NW Atlanta, police say

Police are searching for a gunman who shot at an officer in northwest Atlanta Thursday morning.

Officials tell FOX 5 shortly before 4 a.m., an officer patrolling near Johnson and Rockdale roads notice two stolen vehicles being driven in the area. 

When the officer started the follow the stolen cars, police say occupants in both began shooting, hitting the officer’s unmarked car.

After the shooting, the people inside one of the cars, described as an orange Dodge Hellcat, fled the scene on foot. Police are now examining the Hellcat to see if they can identify anyone involved.

The officer was not hurt in the shooting.
