Multiple cars damaged by truck in Baltimore neighborhood

People in a southwest Baltimore neighborhood are outraged. Police said a truck hit and damaged several parked cars, and residents said they watched the chaotic scene play out.Police told 11 News the incident remains under investigation. Residents said it was unlike anything they’ve seen before.”Boom, boom! I was like, I thought I was dreaming,” said Kay Mathews, a resident.But for Matthews, it was no dream — it was more of a nightmare. Around midnight Wednesday, he looked outside his window to see his Honda Accord totaled.”It just hurts to even have to come out my house and step out front and see my car like that. That’s a hurting feeling.” Matthews said. “My only car. That’s how I take my daughter to school in the morning, that’s how I get to work, that’s how I take my grandmother and my mother places.”It wasn’t just his car, neighbors said that a truck struck around 30 parked cars in the 2600 block of Wilkens Avenue.”To walk down and see the devastation, it’s like a tornado went through Wilkens Avenue for five blocks.” said Kristy Simmons, a resident.Simmons lives in the area and her car wasn’t damaged, but she saw most of what happened.”This truck is just going up the road and just smacking them, the lady is chasing them down the street, like, ‘Somebody stop him!’ Everybody is banging on everybody’s door,” Simmons said.Police have not released many details about the incident or the driver. Many of the damaged cars were still along the road Thursday, which raises more concerns for residents.”Now, what people do is they drive up and they stop and look. So, now it’s a distraction and it’s going to cause another accident,” Simmons said.Matthews said he’s reached out to his insurance company and now he’s just waiting to see what’s next.”For somebody to do something like that to your property, that you work hard for, is just crazy,” Matthews said.WBAL-TV 11 News reached out to the company that owns the truck and did not receive a response.
