A 31-year-old man accused of being on meth and leading a chase after intentionally ramming multiple Bremerton police patrol cars while driving a stolen car was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after officers were able to block his vehicle in place and stop him on Kitsap Way, according to the Bremerton Police Department.
In a press release, Bremerton police said officers located a stolen Chevy Blazer driven by the male suspect just after 4 p.m. The suspect “intentionally rammed” a Bremerton police patrol car at S. National Avenue and Charleston Beach Road, according to police, and a pursuit ensued, with the driver hitting another Bremerton police patrol car along the way.
When the vehicle was traveling on Kitsap Way between Oyster Bay and National Avenue, a Bremerton officer used his patrol vehicle in a “pursuit intervention technique” to “spin the suspect vehicle when an opportunity presented itself.”
Three Bremerton patrol officers were able to block the vehicle in place and the driver of the Blazer was arrested. Police noted that the suspect was wearing body armor when he was arrested.
The suspect and all of the officers involved in the chase were uninjured, according to Bremerton police. A total of four Bremerton police cars were involved in the collisions, and the Washington State Patrol is investigating.
The man is being booked into the Kitsap County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and third-degree assault. Bremerton police said that the man had a felony warrant.
This is the second time in a week a driver of a stolen vehicle has been involved in ramming a police vehicle in Kitsap County. On Jan. 26, a 26-year-old man is accused of ramming two Port Orchard police cars and two parked cars in the Goodwill parking lot at 1700 Mile Hill Drive in Port Orchard to get away. Police did not pursue the suspect in that case, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
